About us
The site is made by Elisa Ganea, who went through legal transition in Romania and wrote the guide. What you will find here, and what we cannot offer you.
About transgen.ro
transgen.ro is a resource hub for trans people in Romania and for the people around them. It gathers, checks and keeps current information that is otherwise scattered, wrong or out of date: how legal transition and changing your documents work, what medical transition involves, where to find community and support. All of it is free, in Romanian and English, and written by people who have been through what they describe.
The site does not track visitors and sells nothing. What happens to your data, in the few places it asks for any, is in the privacy policy.
What you will find here
- Guides. Procedures explained step by step, in Romanian and English, kept current. The legal transition guide is published; the ones on medical transition and on community are in progress.
- Templates. The documents you need for the file, with a note on every field.
- Celeste. An assistant that answers questions using only the text on this site and shows you where the answer came from.
- Questions and answers. Short answers to what most people ask first.
What you will not find here
I am not a lawyer and I do not give legal advice. I am not a doctor and I do not give medical advice. The information on this site is for guidance, written from experience and checked with care, but every case is different. For your own situation, find a professional. Romania’s LGBTQ+ organisations have contacts for allied lawyers and doctors.
About the author
My name is Elisa Ganea. I am a trans woman from Romania and I went through legal transition on my own: I prepared my own file, represented myself in court and won. Along the way I found how little clear information exists and how much of what circulates is wrong or out of date.
The legal transition guide on this site came out of that experience, written so that nobody has to start the process from scratch again. The rest of the site grew around it.
Supporting the site
Everything here is free and stays that way. Hosting and the work behind it are not. If you can spare it, you can chip in.
Passing the site on helps just as much: to someone who needs it, to an organisation, to a support group.
